POINTING OUT THE DHARMAKAYA
Ten-Day Group Retreat with Acharya Richard John
The Shambhala Buddhist lineage holds three profound streams of teaching: The Shambhala terma, Dzogchen, and Mahamudra.
Mahamudra, the "great seal,” established as the basis for our vajrayana path by the Vidyadhara, Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche and encouraged by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, is revered as a powerful support for all other tantric practices. It is also extremely simple and direct. It is focused on recognizing and gaining confidence in the true nature of mind through direct experience--the essence of all vajrayana practice.
In this ten-day group retreat, tantrikas will practice Pointing Out the Dharmakaya, the famous practice instructions of the Ninth Karmapa, Wangchuk Dorje. The retreat will follow the general guidelines set down for the Mahamudra in the Three-Year Retreat at Gampo Abbey, using silence and a disciplined schedule to create the ideal container for practice. It will also connect this tradition with Shambhala imagery and teachings by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche.
The pre-requisite is attendance at Shambhala Vajrayana Seminary or Sacred World Assembly. This retreat is appropriate for tantrikas at all levels of practice. Participants who have attended Scorpion Seal Assembly will have the opportunity to do the trekcho and appropriate practices during this retreat.
All participants must enter the retreat at the very beginning and commit to the entire time. Students who have previously completed a Mahamudra retreat may request permission to leave earlier, if necessary.
ACHARYA RICHARD JOHN
An early student of Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche, Richard was appointed an acharya by Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche. For many years he has taught Shambhala Buddhist programs in North America, New Zealand, Australia, Mexico and Chile. After completing three months of Mahamudra practice within the first Three-Year Retreat at Gampo Abbey, he established a 49-Day Mahamudra Retreat at Karme Choling, and now leads the annual Ten-Day Mahamudra Retreat at Dorje Denma Ling, in Nova Scotia.
Full program tuition $810 plus accommodations: We invite all who are able to do so to pay the full tuition rate. By doing so, you make it possible for us to offer scholarships to others, while also covering the direct cost of your stay here and contributing to our year round operations. Interest free payment plans for 6 months are an option for those who choose this tuition level.
Discounted program tuition $540 plus accommodations: If the full tuition is unworkable for you, please pay the discounted rate if you can. By doing so you contribute towards the cost of your being here and everything it takes to keep DDL operating year-round.
Discounted tuition plus payment plan $90/month: If having 6 months to pay makes the discounted tuition possible for you, please choose this interest free option. The payments would be $90 per month for tuition; if you add lodging to the payment plan it would be $149/month.
Free tuition: Dorje Denma Ling is offering a free tuition option for our practice intensives in 2013, including this one. If you choose this option, you will be charged only for accommodations. We welcome you to choose this option if the payment plan option above still does not make the program affordable for you.
Please Note: Above price includes meals but not accommodations. For winter programs, double and triple rooms with shared hallway bathrooms are available in Gyatso Lodge for $35 per night, so for this program the lodging cost would be an additional $350. Huts and Cabins are not available as lodging options for winter programs. If you are interested in a single room, please contact us about two weeks before the program begins, and depending on the number of registrants, we may be able to offer you this option for an additional $40 per night.
All program costs at Dorje Denma Ling are workable. With either of the tuition choices above, we can provide a payment plan of up to 6 months, and we also match all scholarships that local Shambhala Centers grant to help their members attend programs. If you have any questions about the financial aid or payment plans, please contact us at 902-657-9085 or via email at firstname.lastname@example.org at least two weeks before the program begins. Please note that we cannot arrange tuition discounts at registration.
Deposits will be refunded up to 30 days prior to the program, less a 10% administration fee. Deposits will be 50% refunded up to 10 days prior to the program. There is no refund of deposits for cancellations less than 10 days before the start of a program.
