Finance Manager

Passionate about financial management?

Interested in living and working at a Practice Centre?

Dorje Denma Ling, Shambhala’s retreat center in Tatamagouche, NS, seeks a practitioner with the energy, skills, and creativity to relate to all aspects of our financial operations: from strategic planning to day-to-day accounting.

The Finance Manager reports directly to the Executive Director and is responsible for ensuring that the financial health of the center is nurtured and developed. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated skill in financial administration, including budgeting, planning, cash management, bookkeeping, preparing payroll, filing tax returns, and so on. The Finance Manager prepares regular reports for the Executive Director, the Dorje Denma Ling Council and Shambhala International, supervises the staff bookkeeper, and also oversees the DDL gift shop. S/he needs to work well as part of a team and have excellent communication skills. Proficiency with Excel is required, along with Simply Accounting or another similar accounting software program.

DDL has good management systems in place and virtually no debt. The next Finance Manager will help to build on that foundation as the Centre prepares for its next stage of growth.

Dorje Denma Ling is a wonderful place to live, practice, and serve others. The Finance Manager is part of the leadership team at DDL, and therefore should have an established meditation practice, a connection to Shambhala path, and a strong desire to apply his/her financial skills in the service of others.

We are looking for practitioners who want to help others by embodying Shambhala vision and contributing to a strong culture of courageous kindness and wakefulness. You will help manifest a 24/7 practice and learning environment that extends into all aspects of life and work, where visitors, program participants and interns can connect with their basic goodness and confidence.

DDL staff members receive room and board, a monthly stipend, generous discounts on programs at DDL and other land centres, and 26 days of retreat/vacation time per year, and other benefits. We practice together morning and evening, have two 4-day staff retreats each year, and occasional staff classes. We work to bring our practice with us from the cushion to all aspects of work and community life.

The Finance Manager does not need to be a Canadian citizen. Work visas are easily obtained for people coming from other countries to work at Dorje Denma Ling. The start date for this position is flexible, and could be anytime in the first half of 2013. A minimum 2-year commitment is preferred.
