Facilities Manager

Nature of the Work

The role of the Facilities Manager is to provide a well maintained, safe and beautiful environment for all participants, staff and visitors at Dorje Denma Ling, a Buddhist meditation retreat centre in Tatamagouche, Nova Scotia.

The facilities manager plans, schedules, and directs all maintenance for Dorje Denma Ling buildings, grounds, structures, vehicles and equipment. Work includes performing maintenance duties and planning, organizing, evaluating, coordinating, and supervising the work of skilled maintenance and repair workers and other related staff.

  • Valid driver’s license.


  • Plans and schedules preventive and corrective maintenance for facilities and equipment.
  • Oversees and performs duties related to program set-up and take down.
  • Inspects work sites to ensure work is proceeding on schedule and as assigned.
  • Provides supervision to maintenance workers and other staff.
  • Provides guidance and training to volunteers and core staff members.
  • Development of annual Facilities operating budget, which includes estimates of all materials, supplies, equipment training, travel and utility expenses.
  • Arranges for purchase of departmental supplies, materials, and equipment, within the established budget.
  • Coordinates outside contractual agreements when services such as electrical or plumbing services are needed; monitors work performed by contractors.
  • Supervises or arranges for the daily maintenance and repair of buildings, equipment and vehicles; monitors repair work by private vendors and Dorje Denma Ling staff.
  • Provides technical assistance in resolving electrical, plumbing, mechanical, and other maintenance related issues.
  • Responds to mechanical emergencies and other systems emergencies.
  • Ensures that all equipment, materials, and work conditions are adequately maintained to prevent accidents.
  • Performs related work as required.
