We are happy that you are considering travel to Dorje Denma Ling. The Halifax International airport is the just over an hour from Dorje Denma Ling. In order to assist you in your travel plans we have provided information about ride sharing, driving directions, public ground transportation options and rental cars.

Please note that, unfortunately, Dorje Denma Ling does not have the staff resources to coordinate travel arrangements at this time.

Ride Sharing

  • Unfortunately our website doesn’t have a Ride Board function. Closer to the arrival date for programs, after most have made travel plans, we try to share information among participants so you can connect directly and make your own ride-share arrangements.
  • Use the Shambhala Network: By logging into your Shambhala International account you can access multiple groups for Ride Share help. You can post a request in the Atlantic Canada and Halifax Community groups. If you are not already a member of these groups, you may need to join. 
  • Maritime Ride Share This is a public ride share serving many parts of Atlantic Canada. We’re not exactly sure how it works: it may pare you with a taxi or other ride service. It doesn’t hurt to make the request and see what is offered.

Driving

Driving Directions from Halifax / Halifax International Airport to Dorje Denma Ling:

  • From Halifax or the airport – enter highway 102 heading North in the direction of Truro.
  • Keep driving past two Truro exits (Truro Heights, exit 13 and Truro Bible Hill, exit 14). Do not take these exits.
  • Take exit 14A in the direction of Onslow/Tatamagouche.
  • Exit ramp 14A rises to the top of a hill, at the peak, turn right onto Onslow Rd towards Tatamagouche.
  • Follow Onslow Rd for approximately 4km to hwy 311 at the flashing yellow light.
  • Then turn left onto highway 311.
  • Travel along highway 311 for about 40km until you reach Balmoral Road. When you see a sign for “The Falls” you are getting close.
  • Turn left onto Balmoral Road (sign reads 256 to New Annan  and Wentworth). The landmark for the turn is a large white church on the left at the intersection of Balmoral Road and Highway 311. (Please note that Balmoral Road appears on the right side of the road before you reach the left turn.)
  • Dorje Denma Ling is located about 300 meters up on your left.
  • Turn left into our gravel driveway and follow it until you see the Dorje Denma Ling buildings and a short term parking lot on your right. You can walk up the hill and enter the main office the left.

Driving Directions from Highway 6, Tatamagouche village, to Dorje Denma Ling:

  • From Main Street in Tatamagouche, drive east past the Ford dealership.
  • Turn right at the fork onto highway 311 toward Truro.
  • Follow highway 311 9.4 km (5.8 miles) to Balmoral Road (sign reads 256 New Annan/Wentworth).
  • Turn right onto Balmoral Road (sign reads 256 to New Annan and Wentworth). When you see the sign for “The Falls” you are getting close. The landmark for the turn is Balmoral Kirk – a large white church – on the right at the intersection of Balmoral Road and Highway 311.
  • Dorje Denma Ling is located about 300 meters up on your left.
  • Turn left into our gravel driveway and follow it until you see the Dorje Denma Ling buildings and a short term parking lot on your right. You can walk up the hill and enter the main office the left.

Taxis/Shuttles

Airport car services are available curbside in the arrivals area for all arriving flights. A one-way trip to Halifax city centre is about $68.00 by taxi or limousine, but prices can vary depending on the carrier or which part of Halifax you are visiting. From the airport to Dorje Denma Ling a one-way trip could cost as much as $150 or more if you are traveling alone.

The town of Truro is about an hour from the airport, and 40 minutes from Dorje Denma Ling. From the airport, you can take the Maritime Bus to Truro for under $15 (per person), and from Truro rides can cost from $60 upwards (per trip).

Your best option to minimize transportation prices is to share with other participants when possible.

Public Transit Options

If you can’t find a ride share or arrange a group booking from the airport with other travellers to Dorje Denma Ling, your next best option is to get to Truro. We can often find Tatamagouche sangha or DDL staff who can pick you up in Truro, which is a primary service centre for Tatamagouche located approximately 40 minutes from Dorje Denma Ling.
