CANCELLED: Shambhala Training Level IV

With Alice Haspray

June 18 - 19, 2020

Shambhala Training: The Heart of Warriorship

Shambhala Training: The Heart of Warriorship is a series of five secular meditation retreat weekends that help us develop fearlessness, confidence, openness and gentleness towards ourselves and our world. These qualities arise out of meditation practice and study of Shambhala warriorship principles as taught by Chogyam Trungpa Rinpoche.

Shambhala Training welcomes people of all religious traditions as well as those who do not follow a particular spiritual path.

You can read more about Shambhala Training and the path or warriorship in Shambhala: The Sacred Path of the Warrior. (Chogyam Trungpa, 1984)

Shambhala Training Levels I through V are designed to be taken in sequence which follows the natural unfolding of our experience.  In order to register for this retreat, participants are expected to have completed Shambhala Training Level III.

Level IV: Awakened Heart

“Through the practice of sitting still and following your breath as it goes out and dissolves, you Awakened-heart-resized are connecting with your heart.  By simply letting your self be, as you are, you develop genuine sympathy towards yourself. …

Such awakened heart comes from being willing to face your state of mind,”

– Chogyam Trungpa, Shambhala: The Sacred Path of the Warrior

Level IV begins with the first talk on Thursday evening at 7:45, and continues through Friday. Level V begins on Saturday morning after breakfast. Both weekends consist of walking and sitting meditation, talks, silent periods, group discussions and individual conversations with a meditation instructor.

Accommodations are extra. All prices listed in $CDN.
For a list of accommodation options, visit the Registration Page.

PLEASE NOTE: If you are coming just for Level IV, you can leave on Friday evening after dinner if you prefer, or choose to stay for the evening discussion and leave Saturday morning after breakfast. The Registration Page will let you select your an extra night’s stay if you prefer to leave Saturday morning.

Alice Haspray
Alice began practicing meditation in 1967 with the beloved Zen master Shunryu Suzuki Roshi (author of Zen Mind, Beginner’s Mind). After Roshi’s death in 1971, she continued on the path of meditation and study with Chögyam Trungpa Rinpoche and was a close student until his death in 1987. After Trungpa Rinpoche’s death, Alice continued studying the advanced Shambhala teachings with Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche, Trungpa’s eldest son. In 2010 Sakyong Mipham Rinpoche appointed Alice as a shastri or senior teacher in Nova Scotia, and in early 2013 the Sakyong and Pema Chödron requested her to serve as Gampo Abbey’s senior teacher in residence, which she did…
