Be part of the Dorje Denma Ling Community

Life at a practice centre has three components:

1. Community as a practice, and Shambhala cultural development

2. Professional and vocational service, training and experience

3. Personal practice and education path

Staff and interns will gain experience, skills and knowledge in all three components, which are valuable for their future engagements in work, community and in their personal live.

Summer 2018 Residency now available.

Dorje Denma Ling is a Shambhala meditation retreat centre in northern Nova Scotia. As an intentional community, our life together is centered in the Shambhala vision of basic goodness and enlightened society.

We are here primarily to serve others. Working in our various service areas, we are committed to creating and maintaining a warm and elegant environment where people can relax and experience their own inherent goodness. Service is viewed as a continuation of our practice into the post-meditation environment, and an opportunity to exercise generosity, patience, exertion, kindness and letting go.

Summer residents at Dorje Denma Ling are committed to creating “enlightened society” together, which generates an atmosphere of kindness and delight for the summer community and visitors. All community members commit to full participation in Dorje Denma Ling’s schedule of practice and study, community life and service (work). These three elements are indispensable to our creation of an uplifted, joyful, efficient, friendly and “other-oriented” community.

In exchange for your commitment, you will receive full room and board, ability to participate in the daily schedule of meditation practice, dharma classes, individual guidance from a meditation instructor, and one-on-one coaching from a senior Shambhala practitioner.

Practice and study are the foundation for life at Dorje Denma Ling, because they help us to see clearly, and to develop mindfulness, kindness and compassion. The tradition of Shambhala Buddhism is the framework for our practice, yet we welcome people of any religious background who wish to explore what Shambhala Buddhist practice and community life is like. At Dorje Denma Ling we offer opportunities for practice and study for practitioners at all stages of the spiritual path.

If this sounds like a place you would like to experience, and contribute to, please contact us by writing to personnel@dorjedenmaling.com to explore the many opportunities available for you. We hope you will pause to consider taking time in your life for this precious opportunity.

We are looking for Summer Volunteers in the following departments:

Summer months at Dorje Denma Ling are the busiest part of our program season – a time of intensive practice, and deep meditation. Hundreds of people come to this part of picturesque Nova Scotia to come together with the fellow warriors on the Shambhala path to deepen their practice.

Summer is an ideal time to experience life in our dharma centre as a volunteer and to apply meditation in action in the midst of running the summer programs.

Summer volunteering at Dorje Denma Ling combines work, meditation, connection with community and so much needed help to our centre. It’s a unique opportunity to spend a time in a distinctive environment aspiring to create an enlightened society, surrounded by beautiful open meadows and a magical sky.
