Death and the Art of Dying: Dream Yoga and Death

Sleep and dream provide precious opportunities for spiritual awakening.  Every night we drop into the enlightened state, do not recognize it, and miss another chance.  By learning how to wake up in our dreams, we can transform sleep into a profound method to help us understand the nature of mind and reality.  Dream yoga is also an important preparation for death – lucid dreaming leads to lucid dying.  In this weekend we will melt the boundaries between day and night, dissolve the solidity of daytime appearances, and become children of illusion.

Dream yoga evolved principally as a preparation for death.  If you can wake up in your dreams you will be able to wake up in the bardos and take rebirth into a pure land, or attain enlightenment.  One third of our lives is spent sleeping.  Dream and sleep yoga allow us to transform sleep into meditation.  Instead of going to sleep each night, we can practice waking up.

Andrew Holecek has completed the traditional three-year Buddhist meditation retreat, and offers seminars internationally on meditation, dream yoga, and death.  He is the author of “The Power and the Pain: Transforming Spiritual Hardship into Joy,” and “Preparing to Die: Practical Advice and Spiritual Wisdom from the Tibetan Buddhist Perspective.” His work has appeared in the Shambhala Sun, Buddhadharma, Light of Consciousness, Utne Reader, and other periodicals.

Full program tuition not including accommodations: $300  We invite all who are able to do so to pay the full tuition rate.  By doing so, you make it possible for us to offer scholarships to others, while also covering the direct cost of your stay here and contributing to our year round operations.   Interest free payment plans for 6 months are an option for those who choose this tuition level.

Discounted program tuition not including accommodations: $250 plus accommodations:  If the full tuition is unworkable for you, please pay the discounted rate if you can.  By doing so you contribute towards the cost of your being here and everything it takes to keep DDL operating year-round.

Discounted tuition plus payment plan $42/month:   If having 6 months to pay makes the discounted tuition possible for you, please choose this interest free option.   The payments would be $42 per month for tuition; if you add lodging to the payment plan it would be $49/month in a hut/cabin or $57/month in the Lodge.  If you select this payment plan option, after finishing your registration, please call the registrar at DDL to set up the payment schedule.

Please Note:  Above prices include meals but not accommodations.  For summer programs, we offer three lodging options:

Bring your own tent and set up on one of our tent platforms: free

Hut/cabin/dorm tent:     $20 per night

Gyatso Lodge:                $45 per night

Gyatso Lodge has double and triple rooms with shared hallway bathrooms.  The huts, dorm tents and cabins have 2 - 8 occupants and share an outdoor bath-house.

All program costs at Dorje Denma Ling are workable.  With either of the tuition choices above, we can provide a payment plan of up to 6 months, and we also match all scholarships that local Shambhala Centers grant to help their members attend programs.  If you have any questions about the financial aid or payment plans, please contact us at 902-657-9085 or via email at [email protected]  at least two weeks before the program begins.  Please note that we cannot arrange tuition discounts at registration.
