Who We Are

Dorje Denma Ling (DDL) is a Buddhist retreat centre located atop a hill in Nova Scotia, Canada, about 6 km from the Village of Tatamagouche. We are guided by the Shambhala, Kagyu and Nyingma teachings, and aspire to practice, study, work and live in a society based on compassion and kindness toward all sentient beings and our planet Earth.

A registered non-profit society, Dorje Denma Ling has been providing a supportive environment for individuals and groups to practice meditation and other contemplative disciplines since 1992.

What We Do

DDL hosts group retreats on the land which strengthen one’s innate mindfulness and awareness capabilities, and foster a more awake, kind, and caring culture. These collaborative learning programs bring together like-minded people who are passionate about creating a sane society – a society that promotes basic goodness, compassion, and respect for each other and for the world.

These on-land retreats are currently hosted from May through November. (The exact timing changes from year to year.  Please check back!) During the colder season, we focus more on hosting online courses.

Seasonal Employment

The seasonal nature of DDL means that most of the paid work is also seasonal, with a few exceptions in finance, programs and management.  Seasonal staff would generally live at or near the Centre.

Onsite housing and meals are provided at no charge; wage levels are compliant with the Nova Scotia provincial standards, but can vary depending on the skill level required for the position. Staff also get a 30% discount in our Gift Store.

Seasonal workers are typically needed in the area of guest services, facilities, kitchen (manager and cooks), and housekeeping. We also welcome volunteers for extended periods during the season. (Go here for more information.)

To apply for the 2024 seasonal positions listed here, either submit a resume and cover letter to [email protected], or complete this online application form.
